Spacer for mounting a wide tire on 8 inch Vespa models. 5mm more distance to the clutch cover.

There are also tyres available, in various sizes and widths, for the really early 8?? wheeled Vespa models. Sporting riders prefer tyres with a lower profile, that reduce instability while following the racing line through bends and curves, with a better feel for the roads surface. There are even 4.00/8?? tyres, that possess a noticeably increased circumference when compared to the 3.50 versions. These are also popular as a simple method of raising the overall transmission ratio for the engine.

There is a restriction to the width of tyre that can be fitted as they eventually come into contact with the parts surrounding the wheel, such as the clutch cover. This can become especially apparent if a larger clutch and/or a thicker clutch gasket surface spacer is fitted. Sometimes the friction caused by this contact only occurs during operation, as the tyre is affected by lateral and centrifugal forces changing its passive form. This contact is indicated by black streaks on the clutch cover or the inner flank of the tyre itself.

We now have a
spacer “4-hole wheel??,
AKA alignment distance plates, that are 5mm thick and simply placed between the wheel and the brake drum mountings. This provides an extra 5mm of clearance between the wheel/tyre assembly and the surrounding parts. This enables all common widths of 8?? scooter tyres to be safely included, even 4.00/8??! This conversion leaves 5mm less thread available on the mounting studs for the wheel nuts. We recommend that each stud be checked for a sufficient amount of usable thread to effectively position the wheel nuts. Even though many wideframe owners consider this unnecessary we strongly recommend the use of longer wheel mounting studs for complete peace of mind. This is a simple task for a locksmith, although an angle grinder and welding are also necessary…

Hexagonal M8x30/M10x25 bolts (#88849000/#12306000) with a strength category rating of 8.8 are excellently suited at providing extended wheel mounting studs.
