Cristian Mazelli is a dedicated Vespa enthusiast and he has been most active on the Italian scooter racing scene for many years. During his time as a racer he was constantly faced with material and part quality problems he deemed as unsuitable for the task in hand. To ease these bottlenecks in supply he decided to use his career-based knowledge of industrial research and development to create parts under his own name that he now markets under the ‘CRIMAZ’ logo. Beautifully detailed solutions combined with very high production quality are the results! There are already a number of primary-drive cogs and clutch / primary-drive baskets available for smallframe Vespa engines that are suitable for use in highly tuned motors through the use of high quality materials and elegant mechanical solutions. Despite this Christian Mazelli and his CRIMAZ firm still finds it necessary to create his own ingenious solutions. The components of the drive train located between the crankshaft and the output shaft are essential for the power transmission through the Vespa smallframe engine. Firstly, the correct choice of primary-drive ratio decides whether you can ride your scooter within the desired rev-range. Secondly, well-functioning primary-drive shock absorber system makes life easier on the transmission components and also lengthens the period of their effective use. Thirdly, the basket holds the clutch assembly together and is responsible for a stable power transmission between the motor and gearbox of the engine. In highly tuned engines it must also provide sufficient room for high performance clutch assembly components. CRIMAZ approaches these challenges with creative solutions on hand:
The primary-drive cog possesses wider teeth and is of a high end production. The internal spring seats have been reappraised and the stroke of the absorbers increased which increases the longevity of the gearbox and selector spider. The cog is mounted to the shaft with a needle-bearing and the cogs can be combined with those by other manufacturers. It is available in three versions that makes them compatible with many primary-drive cogs. Primary Gear Cog

24 25 The clutch/primary-drive basket is equipped with special springs and balances well in combination with the CRIMAZ repair-kit.The lighter, more stable basket stands 1.5mm further out than the standard item. This primary-drive repair kit is made of steel, is very massively built and is equipped with improved spring-seats. The total parts are a primary cog, clutch basket and repair kit and they are available separately or as a kit. CRIMAZ also offers primary gears that can be changed when installed. Here, the gears are bolted to the hub via a thread. Conclusion : Perfectly matched and balanced state-of-the-art components. Ideal for both racing and reliable road-going engine projects.
Do not forget to order the suitable cog. This kit harmonises best with the CRIMAZ CM 4 or Top CM5 clutch types.
