It is easy to check the functionality with an unloaded front wheel. Simply jack up the scooter on the centre stand and move the steering shaft with the wheel control back and forth in the direction of travel. If the steering column shows clearance it is necessary to either retighten the upper nut or to replace the bearings. Checking the bearing shells is also recommended at the same time.
